The Guild Hall

I'm not around anymore, but I always assumed Waka had a little alchemy lab that she turned into a center for boiling down inks from herbs and scribing things. She also probably has a lot of books and a lofted bed in the same room for those all-nighters. I think I might even go over to the Recent History thread and post some of these character changes.

Yay! Do post. And if you wanna claim one of the rooms, or a corner of the foyer, for Waka, just say the word. Smile

I think she only even needs a half-room - the way I see it in my mind, it's only about six feet wide, and maybe twice as long.

Mel would make good use of the forges outside, either to the side or behind the guild hall. Next to the forge is a large anvil inscribed with a music note to represent Iron and song.

As for Melikar's room, it would be smaller, just the size needed for troll anyway. Along the wall would be commemorations of all his deeds and fighting done in the various battle-ground areas of Azeroth from Warsong to Wintergrasp. He has his own small fire-place built into one wall. Stones are placed into the floor below in a half-circle, all gray except for the red painted ones formed to look like the Horde symbol. His old [item]Brutal Gladiator's Decapitator[/item] rests in a hold above the hearth, having once been his "best friend" through all his battles in Outlands.

His bed is a roughly-made wood frame with some blankets sewn together by various tailors of the tribe. He also uses fresh piles of hay and long grass to form up a mattress. Along with his various commemorations along the wall, there are a few unframed pictures. One is of himself and Gholjan in Shattrath city near Adal. To the left is another from the ball that was had before Northrend ((Mel wasn't actually there in game, but as far as RP goes he was)) of both he and Thanuist. She is giving the camera a slight smirk while the troll is waving. Next to that is an image of Krelldor and Melikar sitting on the workshop steps in Wintergrasp and next to that is an image of Sreng drinking his fill from a Brewfest keg as he stares into the fire at Grom'gol.

Most recently added is a picture of Durkham and Melikar caught going over a map of Alterac Valley on one of the Filthy Animal tables in Dalaran.

A few various other items decorate the walls: his first set of talbuk reigns from the Mag'har, a large Naga fang from his ventures into Serpentshire Cavern, a silver necklace of a hammer engraved with a music note.

There is a bedside table also roughly made of wood like the bed. There is a thick tome laying on top titled "The Horde's Hellscream". Underneath are sprawled a few tougher blacksmithing patterns and small, rough chunks of ore decorate the area as such. Propped up next to the first book is another titled "Peeling the Onion: Victory in Alterac Valley".

(Will add Kard's later. And anything else I think would be good to note here.)

Here's a draft of Dispaya's sanctum as described. I had to leave the classroom before I could finish labeling everything, but I think it's largely self-explanatory if you read the description. When I have time, I'd like to detail the sparsely labeled rooms and make sure to add connecting doors etc. to give everything the same level of detail.

I wasn't sure what else to put in the front room except for a comfy couch and the fireplace. It may be that the room is too big in comparison to the rest of the sanctum, and that can be reworked. Otherwise, I can put whatever you want in there.

A guild hall would be totally, totally awesome. Now if only Blizzard would listen...

I can easily see Lailya appropriating an unused room off the social area for her workshop, preferably one with large or multiple windows - she favors natural lighting when she works on her sewing, although curtains will be a necessity to keep the fabrics from fading. Also, shelves: she's more than happy to install them herself and then add cupboards as she needs, but storage will be a necessity for all the cloth and thread and miscellanous material she requires for both personal projects and commissions. The room would quickly descend into chaos to the untrained eye, with material mixed about haphazardly, but it's that odd organized chaos since Lailya knows where everything is at all time, and the closets where the finished products go until they're sold or delivered are kept in careful order. A huge oak workbench would dominate most of the room, with numerous draws for smaller items like thread, needles, pins, measuring tapes, and whatnot, and the surface would be covered in cloth and sketching paper. A few mannequins of various shapes and sizes, representations of the various Horde races, stand in one corner, for when Lailya can't wrangle a tribemate into standing still long enough to help her figure out the drape and fit of an outfit.

There'd be chairs, too - wooden ones, comfy ones, tall stools, fluffy cushions for louning on, anything that Lailya can find from around the guild hall that isn't being used. She gets obsessed with her work (or obsessed with complaining about it, if she's been commissioned for some impossible request in an impossible timeframe), but she likes company and objects to sit on generally entice people to stay a little longer. And to get people to come in, the door's always wide open.

Besides commandeering a workroom for herself, Lailya would happily take on the task of tending the garden or greenhouse (whichever the tribe has at the guild hall) to make sure the tribe's alchemists always have fresh herbs for their potions (and that the cooks like herself always have fresh ingredients!). Chances are Lailya would also end up planting rose bushes around the perimeter of the main hall itself, or whatever ornamental flower catches her fancy if the rose idea is vetoed by the rest of the tribe, but roses are her favorite, especially red ones. And black roses. Yellow, too. White's very pretty. Pink's nice, but just having roses is pushing it, pink ones will be asking for trouble. And she is going to get her hands on blue rose seeds, even if she has to call in every favor she's owed or use every piece of blackmail she's accumulated...

I'll have to think about what Lailya's bedroom would look like and post it later. Perhaps it'd have a winding staircase directly down into her workroom? Hm, will definitely need some loose floorboards for her secret stash of booze. *grin*

...Good God, how many times did I switch tenses in this?! *makes a disgusted noise*

Ronx is something of a nomad in nature, and lives mostly on the road. When he visits the guild hall, he often stays in the common rooms unless being somebody's guest by some occasion, so he doesn't live in the guild hall, nor does he have any space claimed specifically for himself. He has, however, made something akin to a shrine to one of his passions: engineering. He has spent many weeks on and off working on it, in the place in the southern wing, in the room just east of the social space. A large portion of that room is taken up by a large workshop.

The workshop origianally featured a miniature forge, a myriad set of tools, and a spacious brass work counter spanning the whole of the eastern wall, all of these made by Ronx. There is also room enough for a massive stockpile of parts and supplies of all kinds, and it is usually kept stocked by the dedicated engineers of the Tribe. Numerous additions have been made to the shop, including an anvil; a vent for the forge; and other many, many tools and work utilities of all sorts. Ronx feels very proud of these, as they were not additions done by him, showing that this little territory has become a useful space. Though Ronx had put in the original "bare bones" of the shop, he encourages additions to is where his fellow engineers feel it appropriate.

Ronx is also considering walling off the Eastern part of the room from the Southern part to keep those "nosy bystanders" in the other part of the room out of the shopphe isn't the creator of it

Stalk's quarters would be on the small side (for a Tauren). It would be furnished with Tauren furnishings. A sleeping pallet, a chair and a desk would be the main comforts. Many hides would line the floors and walls with Tauren drawings for decoration. If you stepped in the room you would think you were in Thunder Bluff. It would have quite a few bookshelves with books on various Fauna of the realms. Some of his trophies and keepsakes of his many battles would be prominently displayed. His leatherworking workshop would be next to his private quarters. He would spend some of his time out hunting to keep the larder full with fresh meat for his tribemates. He can often be found in the kitchen butchering or preparing food. He believes deeply in never waisting the Earthmothers gifts. Of coarse, part of his daily routine would be keeping up his marksmanship skills. The target range, which would be behind the Guild Hall, would be set up to accommodate the firing of various ranged weapons. When relaxing Stalk would retreat to his desk to continue to write and sketch in his journal.

Oryx and Zlinka have a suite of rooms on the main floor not far from the guild foyer.

Their front door is a heavy wooden one carved with both Tauren and Troll designs. Upon close inspection, you can see that it's actually a half door -- Oryx and Zlinka can open just the top half so they can be social without risking the escape of their children into the main building.

Inside the front door is a living-dining room, with a small family table and two benches on the left side for the meals they sometimes take in private. On the wall above the table hangs a series of daggers that Zlinka has forged or won in her long career, all carefully bolted to the wall. The room is well lit from windows which open onto a lovely view of hills and oaks. Troll charms hung from the rafters wave quietly in the breeze just outside the windows.

The right side of the room is a comfortable living space, with a well-worn hide couch and several chairs arranged around a small stone hearth and inset fireplace. Several black pots hang bubbling from sooty pothooks over the fire, and a rack of cooking utensils sits on the hearth. Zlinka prepares food in both the guild kitchen and over her own cookfire. On the mantle above the fireplace sits a small, honey-colored wooden flute, a little pot of fine sand, and several beautiful seashells from Zlinka's childhood home in Echo Isles. An oval rug made of woven palm fiber provides a visual focal point for this living area. A trunk of children's toys sits next to the wall, and there are several dolls, blocks, and a stuffed kodo on the rug.

On the wall above the couch hang drawings of the Tribe's many victories: there is a picture of the Tribe gathered around the great hammer of Ragnaros, and the Tribe in a circle around the smoking remains of Kel'Thuzad, to name just two of them. The most recent picture is of the blood-spattered but victorious Tribe around the great, fallen body of the Brood Mother.

But not all the pictures are of battle. There is a playful, vibrant painting of Tribesmates racing during a beach party at Zoram'gar, a jaunty picture of Tribesmates lined up in costumes for a fashion show, a picture of Tribesmates at a dance, and a sober picture of the Tribe kneeling before the Shrine of the Fallen Warrior. Beside them hangs a framed parchment of carefully transcribed Haiku poems.

There are three sleeping rooms off this main living area: one for Oryx and Zlinka, and one each for Luna and Zora. All three of these rooms are relatively small, with just enough room for a bed and a trunk of clothing. Pictures of their small family and their extended families adorn the walls of the bedrooms, along with the childish drawings made by their children. It is apparent that the family does not spend much time in the sleeping rooms, preferring to spend time in their living room, the guild foyer, or out and about in the world.

Off Oryx and Zlinka's bedroom lies an additional room which functions as a study, an alchemy lab for Oryx, and a poison lab for Zlinka. The door to this room is locked and the poisons and reagents are kept in locked cabinets that line the walls. The study also contains a bookshelf, two benches and a well-used worktable that has been scored with scratches and stained with nameless chemicals. The room is well-lit with a skylight and narrow horizontal windows set high in the wall.

The suite of rooms has the wholesome smell of leather and spices and good food. It is a cozy place that is warm and welcoming when the front door is open, and discrete and private when the front door is closed. Zlinka and Oryx and their family split their time between these rooms and an apartment in Dalaran.

As a side note, I've seen in my head that there was also a community sleeping area in the Guild Hall. As there simply couldn't be enough space for all Tribe members to have staked out their own rooms, any Tribe member would be welcome to "own" a small area in a large sleeping room.

I've always thought of Wakamito retiring to the common room, where there is a sleeping pallet for him, a trunk for his possessions, and a shelf for personal items. I suppose it would be similar to a barracks, but a little less ordered and a little more personal. This would also work as an infirmary in times of great battle or epidemic. There would be a central fire pit kept burning by a friendly fire elemental to keep the room warm, and any Tribemate can take a piece of wood or coal to small braziers closer to their own sleeping area (as long as they thank the elemental for the gift).

I guess this was in my head because if each of us had private rooms, we'd probably have a town that would rival Orgrimmar. And while many people choose the privacy of rooms, especially those married couples and families, I am sure that with the Horde culture, many Tribe members would feel more comfortable being surrounded by their comrades in a communal setting, especially those who have been orphaned or seen the rough times of war. It can help remind people that they are part of something greater than themselves.

I tend to see all of my characters staying in a common room, except for Anca, who sleeps in the Guild Vault, or the hidey-holes, up in Skrap's workshop, down in her room in Dispaya's area, or sometimes under the Hall's large table, or on the floor by the door, or by the fire pit, or in a lower cupboard of the pantry, or...

After years of hard campaigning, Jabadue is more comfortable out of doors. Thus, he has set up a small tent on the side of the guild hall. It is adorned with crude paintings of snakes, and the skulls and bones of small animals (not Anca's pets!) hang on leather thongs all around it. Inside is a reed mat for sleeping, and Jaba's kit, packed and ready to go at all times. Also inside, are little mounds of herbs, sticks, small piles of rocks, and tufts of hair, as well as his fishing pole.

When he is not off on a distant battlefield, Jaba can usually be found squatting on his haunches in front of a small campfire, roasting meat or stirring a stew in a iron pot on the coals. He frequently goes inside the guild hall to visit with his tribemates, but prefers to be out in the elements of which he is a master, where he can meditate and pray to his loa. Damballa is the loa of his clan, the Bloodsnakes, but Ogoun is his personal guide. Hanging on a pole outside the tent is a long, curved dagger that is stained with blood. Its handle is covered in snakeskin, and it has a snake skull as a pommel. This is his ritual instrument that he uses to make sacrafice to his loa.

I've always figured the guildhall is more of a meeting place than a home, at least for my characters.

Thanuist takes full advantage of the portals kept running by the many mages hanging around the hall to get to and from her condo in Silvermoon and her apartment in Dalaran. Her only personal space in the tribe's hall is her locker in the foyer (kind of figured there'd be a row of lockable cupboards for those who wish to claim them). Opening the locker reveals a space full of school girl-esque charm. Pinned on the inside of the door are various pictures of attractive, shirtless Sin'dorei men in alluring poses. There are also candid kodgoblin photos of various tribe members including Melikar making a peace sign, Anca and Rinu stuffing their faces with candy, and the backside of an unknowing Donalzon.

Underneath the piles of makeup, cloth scraps, coupon clippings, and leftover Devout candles is a shoebox labeled "Ura" in Thanuist's neat writing. No one's really sure what's in the box, and Thanuist has no desire to find out (in case it's a dead critter keeper).

EDIT: As far as "do we have room for private quarters for everyone who wants it" I've always wondered if wow mages/warlocks have the ability to stretch spaces to fit their needs. To put it in a way that hopefully a few will get, the magic would work a lot like like the room of requirement in harry potter, only instead of a disappearing room, they would be rows of personal doors close together that opened into much more spacious (and magically supported) rooms. My suspicious that they can have grown stronger after going to Dalaran and seeing how much smaller it was than Shatt or any of the main continent cities.

Krell has occupied a room at the end of the long hall for several years. He was not around for the initial construction of this building, but he has helped with some of the additions to it. It's a relatively small room, and very sparsely decorated. Mostly, it is full of items and armor that he has accumulated during his campaign. There are severel unstrung bows sitting in the corner, including his [item]Ancient Amani Longbow[/item] and [item]Serpent Spine Longbow[/item] and they are surrounded by many pieces of discarded, heavily damaged armor. His bed is kept in good condition, and is always neatly made up. Next to his bed is a small table which holds a lamp, various reading material, and some personal items.

He has built a long shelf that runs the length of the room on the side opposite his bed, which holds items that he considers important. On it sit the following:

A piece of [item]Petrified Bark[/item].
A [item]Seal of the Dawn[/item]....with what looks like a tuft of white, feline hair attached to it.
There are several small tin cans filled with dirt, which he has recovered from the site of each important battle he has been involved in.
There is a carving of an Orc, which was made by a certain Timbermaw ancestor named Rell. Propped up next to this is a small statue, his [item]Defender of the Timbermaw[/item].
Mounted on the wall just above this shelf is [item]Gorehowl[/item].
The Ironsong Tabard rests here.
A few flowers sit wilted and dead in a small vase. Dispaya might recognize these as ones she gave to Krell long ago.
Finally, in the corner of the shelf if one were looking closely, they might see a very old, tattered drawing of a Troll female standing in full battle regalia, and she appears to be smiling at the artist.

There are no chairs, and he has no workshop in here. Krell prefers to use the working areas in the Guild Hall, or those located in the various cities. This room is simply his place to rest, and sleep. He spends most of his time in the main room of the Hall, however, since the Zeppelin crash he has retreated much more often to his room.
