Random Observations

Malacrass.. well, holy ****, this guy's hard. If your raid is going to even look at this guy sideways, you'll need 3 healers, all of which must be very, very well geared. Healing through this fight is insanely hard. The previous bosses are all starting to feel pretty routine, although still challenging. I don't think Malacrass will be routine for the forseeable future Wink

We got him to around 6% tonight, and just couldn't quite eke out the last bit.

The fight's random aspects makes it very challenging to prepare for, so I expect this will be a progresssion block for a lot of raids, and makes it almost impossible to consider substituting new people in as progression goes forward.

I think Malacrass depends a lot on the raid makeup. The one time I tried him (with a different raid during the week), we had two priests for group heals (pluss a pallie healer for the third), two mages to sheep the two sheepable adds, and, of course, a shackle from one of the priests for the last add. He died on our third attempt. We spent the first two attempts figuring out that we needed to kill the banishable add first, since banish always tended to break during the first AE shadowbolt spam and spell pushback was causing issues with the warlock rebanishing (if you do end up banishing, you might want to use rank 1 first, then max rank after). Then he'd go eat a healer. After that, we went ahead and killed all 4 adds before the boss, since the preists were fine on mana.

With two priests, the healing is much easier, and with all the mobs CCable, we got to choose the order we wanted to kill them. Without those two things, it becomes a lot more difficult. But like moroes, the adds are random every instance reset, so it might just be that we ended up with an easy set of adds. With a different set, or two of them didn't have CC available, this could get a lot uglier.

Now Zul'jin however... that fight is just mean. I foresee many deaths as people learn how to handle all 5 completely different phases. And with our group composition, we just didn't have enough non-spell damage to get through phase 3 before everyone died. It looks like it forces the raid to be pretty well balanced between melee and ranged DPS, highly mobile (trees in phase 3 would get slaughtered without shifting out), heal through massive burst damage to random people (even the squishies), and looks like it almost requires a priest.

Yeah, banish was troublesome for us as well. We had a dragonkin, undead, elemental, and humanoid. When the elemental broke banish, it'd often get a few big whacks in on someone before the banish was reapplied.

Booyah. Zul'jin down, courtesy of Bloodbound (with Raj and Logros). And to make it all the sweeter, it was a one-shot on our first attempt at him, and we got TWO drops of Executioner.

And tonight it was IST's turn. Huzzah.

Grats to: Eatmore, Jivundus, Jabadoodle, Simra, Zeengo, Gholjan, Khrale, Vanea, Leotie (Harsh Winter), and Logros.

And to express the most common sentiment of the day: Phase 3 sucks.
