Roleplaying Your Knight
#31
I've been struggling a bit with this one myself. I was looking at making Comfort's sister (Though the name Prudence is allready taken, darn it) who was a Paladin when the scourge took Lordaeron and was raised by Arthas. Now, I've been tempted to play her evil, sort of along the lines of my crazy night elf fury warrior back alliance side, and also because someone told me they found it hard to believe I could play evil ( Haha, a challenge! )
The thing is of course, even if she's evil trying to redeem, I've always seen the Ironsong Tribe as an overall Good group. The few people we have who would count as evil (Dergash, I know you're out there ^_~) are still group players who are more willing to do evil to benefit the Tribe or the Horde, at least as fa as I can tell.
That being said, I would expect Death Knights who are trying to redeem to be held to a much higher standard and watched. I don't think my Death Knight concept will fit well in the Tribe, because while she may want to redeem herself, she's going to fail. Often.
That just leaves me with one problem... where else do I put her? Confusedhock:

Then fail.

Honestly do you think everything Dergash does is on the up and up? Do you think that maybe when some alliance village gets burned to the ground, that perhaps it wasn't the Scourge or Legion that had done it?

The key to playing evil in the Tribe isn't doing good. It is creating the perception that what you are doing is good. And making sure your other evil acts are discreet. Smile

Confession of a Warlock....

I am excited to see how some people are going to portray their Death Knights...ultimately some ideas might fail, others will be acceptable, and a few will have very detailed and exciting story lines...Ooooooh the suspense!

In case anyone is wondering, an evil person usually isn't "evil" in their eyes, and usually not in the eyes of their friends.

And what Daichallar doesn't know, won't get you in trouble.

So be evil all you want, just don't go trying to eat people in guild chat.

I said I wasn't going to do it at the beginning, but I probably will.

The name is currently saved to my account as a lowbie priest. I will be a DK for the first day (once I get Mel to Northrend) just to see the lag. I do intend to have him join the guild eventually though.

I have a Death Knight, like a lot of people, myself, and one of my issues is that my character may be too evil for the Tribe. He was a bad person, before becoming a Death Knight, and the transition only made him worse. He is rather sadistic and enjoys hurting people. He makes no qualms about being evil, is fully aware of his nature...and he likes it. Now, this is not to say that he is out of control, far from it. He has a purpose for everything he does, and has a rather warped sense of honor. He would make an excellent villain, but that would be post Arthas, because he wants him dead first (priorities!).

Any ideas on what I could do here? I am not expecting a favorable response.

As Cloud said-

So your character wants to get back at Arthas? The tribe could help him with that... if he was able to fake being a decent person, and hide his evilness. You could use Ironsong for your own ends, provided you didn't let anyone catch on to what you were doing.

My DK has amnesia. I just have to RP a life that he knows exists, but is just lost.

I can't wait to get him all started up, story-wise. It'll be very cool...well, at least for me. I love my characters too much.

The other thing to keep in mind with Death Knights is the fact that these are not like the Forsaken, in that they were possessed by the will of the Lich King and turned into undead monsters. Death Knights willingly served the Scourge in exchange for their powers. They gave up their old lives to become something more evil, yet greater than what they were before. If this faction had not been betrayed by Arthas they would still be serving the Scourge as their brother and sister still do. While some will strive to redeem themselves, and some will seek revenge, most will continue to be what they are, and just use their powers for their own ends.

Okay, a few questions here I'm trying to still figure out.

~Spoilers for those of you who have not rolled one yet~

1. Are all DK's undead? I'm going to assume they are, or they gave up their bodies and souls for power from Arthas, but I don't really know.

2. How did the whole "break away" thing happen? They're serving Arthas, then they get a speech from someone of their race who they have to then kill, then all of the sudden an Argent Dawn guy is all "we're teaming up now, kthx." Uhhh, did I miss the memo? Or was that speech supposed to make them remember they were once good?

Thanks, I'm a bit confused.

Not all Death Knights are undead...some have twisted souls as a result of being in the service of the lich king. Others were turned but not in the same manner that the other Scourge are created. For example Sylvannas is undead I believe, but managed to retain her looks aside from pale skil and a really disturbing voice....

As for the whole break away thing, we were used by Arthas to get to Darions father i believe. Upon succeeding Darion was hurt (on the inside  ) and gave up Ashbringer to Fordring where upon he defeated Arthas in that little sqabble and showed compassion to the death knights knowing that we were used as pawns for Arthas's ultimate plan...

Hypothetically if you were a demons son/daughter and he sacrificed you to get to someone else...and ADMITTED he sent you to die....wouldnt you want to get back at him???....

Hope this helps to some degree

No, many of the Death Knights are living and very willing minions of the Lich King. Unfortunately the powers they wield have a rather negative effect on ones physical form, as well as their soul. You can only freeze your own blood so many times before you run into circulation problems. Wink

Without giving a lot of things away it was more that the new Death Knights had given up their souls for this power, and willingly joined the Scourge. Only to be used and thrown away like the other undead constructs. Betrayed, they have dedicated themselves to destroying the one responsible for that betrayal.

Don't forget, these guys would still be willing servants to the Scourge if they had not been thrown away. And I am pretty sure betraying something like a Death Knight is going to have serious consequences to your future health and well being.

I don't think this is the only possible interpretation though. Based on the DK starting intro, the scripted action happening in Ebon Hold during the early stages of questing as a new DK, and the quest texts as you progress through the story, my own character's story is rather different than what you describe. I suggest anyone with a Death Knight who feels they missed some of it to look at the quests on WoW database web sites, videos of some of it in various places including YouTube, etc.

Whatever folks decide, keep it grounded in Lore and make sure it makes sense. Each character can be unique without being extremely "far out" as it were.
