This is a two-phase encounter in which the two phases alternate back and for the three times. Phase 1 is always the same, while each instance of Phase 2 has some variations. There’s a hard enrage timer or 8 minutes.
The end of Phase One is determined by Iskar’s health. He goes into Phase Two at 70%, 45%, and 20% health. Phase Two lasts for 40 seconds.
During Phase One, the raid faces Iskar alone. During Phase Two, we face a number of adds. Different adds are added in each phase.
Special Mechanics
The Eye of Anzu. This is a glowing orb located on the ground in front of the boss. It can be picked up by getting close to it and right-clicking on it. If it is not picked up at all it deals increasing raid-wide Fire damage.
While carrying the Eye of Anzu, the raid member gains the ability to overcome a number of the fight mechanics. They will get an extra action button, and if they target a raid member and press the button, they can pass the Eye of Anzu to that person. Only one raid member can hold the Eye at a time. Raid members holding the Eye gain a debuff called Radiance of Anzu. It deals low fire damage every 2.5 seconds.
The fighting area is a rectangular room with a cliff at the end of the room opposite the door. We can fall to our deaths off the cliff.
Phase One
Iskar abilities
* Fel Chakram: targets 3 raid members. First it hits a ranged, then bounces to a melee, then hits the tank, then returns to the boss. It deals damage to everyone in its path + moderate AoE around the targeted players.
* Phantasmal Winds: targets a THIRD of the raid and pushes them toward the cliff. Raid members can initially run against the winds to avoid being pushed off, but the pushback gets progressively stronger the longer it’s active. Holding the Eye of Anzu clears the debuff instantly.
* Phantasmal Wounds: targets a number of raid members with a debuff that deals moderate Shadow damage and applies a DoT until the targeted raid member is healed to 90% of their health, at which point the debut disappears. Holding the Eye of Anzu clears this debuff instantly too.
* Fel Incineration: Targets a random raid member with a debuff that causes them to drop a continuous trail of fire on the ground for a few seconds. Anybody standing in the fire takes heavy fire damage.
Strategy
Tank Iskar in the middle of the room, facing the door. Melee stand behind him. Ranged stand in two groups to either side of the door. Iskar does not require a tank switch. We will set up 3 raid markers at the far side of the room: one in the middle of the room, one on the left, and one on the right.
Dealing with Fel Chakram: The targeted ranged person should run to the marker on their side of the room. The melee person should run to the marker straight back. The tank should run to the third marker (whichever side that is). The chakram will hit these three people while staying clear of the rest of the raid. Melee, make sure you aren't standing in the chakram's return path.
Dealing with Phantasmal Winds: Must receive the Eye of Anzu as quickly as possible. Prioritize tanks if they are affected, followed by healers, then DPS. Raid members must figure out who to throw the Eye to. Only a third of the raid is affected. The addon, Iskar Helper, is good here as it gives you a panel of the entire raid with the affected raid members highlighted with icons.
Dealing with Phantasmal Wounds: Heal raid members to 90% or receive the Eye of Anzu. It’s easiest to pass the Eye, so don’t stress too much about healing them to 90%. Focus on passing the Eye instead.
Dealing with Fel Incineration: Move out of the raid and place the line of fire in a way that doesn’t obstruct the raid’s movement. Keep the fire AWAY from the strip of ground between the door and the boss’ spawn location as we’ll be using that in Phase Two.
Phase Two
This phase lasts 40 seconds. Each occurrence of Phase Two has more adds.
Iskar’s abilities
During Phase Two, Iskar takes to the air and flies above the raid for the whole phase. Iskar uses only Focused blast during this time.
Focused Blast: a large laser that is fired from stationary pylons at the far end of the room. The laser targets the player currently holding the Eye of Anzu. It deals massive damage which is split between all players standing in its narrow path.
Adds
* Illusionary Outcasts: spawn in large numbers. They have no abilities and just melee the tank.
* Corrupted Talonpriest: These guys cast Phantasmal Obliteration, a bomb attack. Basically it marks several raid members with Phantasmal Fel Bomb, and debuffs one raid member with Fel Bomb.
* Phantasmal Fel Bomb is a debuff that deals heavy Fire damage to everyone within 15 yards of the affected player after 5 seconds.
* Fel Bomb is a debuff that does nothing on its own. When it is dispelled, though, all Phantasmal Fel Bombs in the raid are ALSO dispelled, and do not carry out their damaging effect when they otherwise expire. Fel Bomb can only be dispelled by someone holding the Eye of Anzu.
* Shadowfel Warden (these start showing up in the second Phase One): These cast Fel Conduit, which is a long channel that deals heavy Nature Damage to 5 random raid members. The damage increases by 25% every time a Fel Conduit happens. This can be interrupted by a player holding the Eye of Anzu.
* Fel Raven (this one spawns only in the third Phase One): The Fel Raven casts Phantasmal Corruption, which marks its current tank. After a few seconds, the tank explodes and deals massive Fire Damage to the entire raid and increases everyone’s fire damage taken by 100% for 10 seconds. If the tank is holing the Eye of Anzu, the tank is not targeted by Phantasmal Corruption at all.
Strategy
The raid should stack up roughly around the middle of the room. It’s important that there is enough space for the raid to be able to form a line in order to split the damage of Focused Blast. When the raid member holding the Eye of Anzu is targeted by the Focused Blast, they must move toward the middle of the room. Other raid members must line up in front of, or behind, that player in order to split the damage. The line players must stand on runs between the door and the cliff.
One tank should pick up all the Illusionary Outcasts, while the other picked up the Corrupted Talonpriest and the other adds (Shadowfel Warden, Fel Raven).
Corrupted Talonpriests are a TOP priority during Phase Two. In order to deal with their Phantasmal Obliteration (the bomb attack), the Eye of Anzu must be passed to a healer. That healer must then dispel the Fel Bomb from the targeted player, and all of this must happen within 5 seconds. This completely clears the Fel Bomb debuff and prevents the bombs from exploding.
Illusionary Outcasts must be tanked. They have no abilities, and killing them is not a priority. They should be deal with last, and incidental AoE may get them before that.
Second Phase Two
We’ll need to deal with the above adds, plus the Shadowfel Warden. Its Fel Conduit must be interrupted as quickly as possible. Since healers should be using the Eye of Anzu in Phase Two anyway, to dispel the Fel Bombs, it’s possible for them to interrupt the Fel Conduit casts as well in some cases (Disc priests, holy paladins, mist weaver monks). If we have such healers, they should pass the Eye among themselves. Otherwise, DPS players or tanks will have to momentarily receive the Eye to interrupt Fel Conduit.
Third Phase Two
We’ll need to deal with all of the above adds, plus the Fel Raven. To handle Phantasmal Corruption, the exploding-tank ability, the Eye of Anzu should be passed to the Fel Raven’s current tank when it is about to be cast. This makes them completely immune to the debuff and negates the ability. We can see when it’s going to be cast on our boss mod timers. If the tank acquires the debuff anyway, the Eye of Anzu can still be thrown to the tank to clear the debuff. This must be done within a few seconds, though, as otherwise the tank will explode. Tanks can also interrupt the Shadowfel Warden while holding the Eye, if necessary.
ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY for the Third Phase Two: Have the Raven's tank hold the Eye of Anzu for the entire phase. The tank will need to interrupt the Warden's channeled cast. The raid will kill the Raven first. If we do this strategy, we'll use Bloodlust here to get the Fel Raven down fast. Once the Raven is dead the tank passes the Eye to a Healer and we proceed as in the second Phase Two, killing the Warden then the Talonpriest. If the Talonpriest casts Fel Bomb before the Raven is dead, we can either (a) have the tank cast the Eye to a healer for a quick dispel, or (b) have players with bombs move out of the group and eat the damage.
Bloodlust
Strategy 1: We’ll use Bloodlust at the start.
Strategy 2: We have the Tank hold the Eye during the third Air Phase and we'll blow Bloodlust to kill the Fel Raven fast.
DPS players should use all their personal cooldowns and rings in Phase Two. Healers should use their legendary rings in Phase Two for Focused Blast, and for potential uninterrupted Fel Conduit damage in the second Phase Two. Tanks should use their Legendary Rings in Phase Two when damage done to them becomes increasingly hectic.
Learning the Fight
This fight is almost completely about learning how to pass the Eye of Anzu around quickly and accurately. Many fight mechanics are completely negated by this. It’s important that all raid members are aware of who is affected by the relevant debuffs by using their raid frames properly.
Summary
Tanks
* During Phase One: one tank should take Iskar. The other has no specific task.
* During Phase Two: One tank should handle the Illusionary Outcasts. The other tank should handle the other adds.
Healers
* While holding the Eye of Anzu:
— Dispel Fel Bomb
— Interrupt Fel Conduit if your class has an interrupt.
* Beware of very high damage by players struck by Fel Chakram
* Players affected by Phantasmal Wounds can be healed to 90% to remove the debuff. Do this whenever the Eye of Anzu is not used to remove the debuff.
DPS
* During Phase One: DPS Shadow-Lord Iskar
* During Phase Two: DPS the Corrupted Talonpriest as quickly as possible, ideally before Phase Two ends. The next priority is the Shadowfel Warden (during the second and third Phase Two), and finally the Fel Raven. Then DPS the other adds as quickly as possible.
Everyone
* Correctly manage the Eye of Anzu
— Pass it to raid members affected by Phantasmal Winds and Phantasmal Wounds
— Pass it to a HEALER during the second Phase Two so they can dispel Fel Conduit and Fel Bombs.
— Pass it to the Fel Raven’s current tank right before it casts Phantasmal Corruption on them.
* Stand in a line in front of or behind the player carrying the Eye of Anzu when Focused Blast is cast, in order to split the damage.
* Run out of the raid and far away when targeted by Fel Chakram.
* Kite the fire trail away from the raid, and from the middle strip of the room, when you have Fel Incineration.
