Raiding Strategy

Shillatae Wrote:::chuckles:: Well, given that we downed Ragnaros in a total of four attempts in one night I have a hard time taking concerns about how quickly or slowly we adapted our strategy on that fight too seriously.

I'm sorry its difficult to view the example for what it was. To suggest that our 4th attempt on the first night of fighting Rags was anything more than scraping our way into victory is overselling the accomplishment.

In successive attempts, after having refined the strategy, we have consistently output DPS that puts our first night to shame, leaving Rags well below the 50% mark after the first phase.

I think this example has been misinterpreted. It was an example of how powerful such minor tweaks can be, and how easily they can be made.

Finally, I don't think the purpose of this thread is to form a channel, but for me, to determine who else would be interested in such a channel before I go and organize one.

Forum discussion between events is a great avenue for this kind of thing, as well, but it has been generally nonexistant in Molten Core. I would support a more iterative approach, as well, where we make 3 attempts, and always discuss afterwards, in the forums, or even in raid chat. (Personally, I like forums because they allow me to collect my thoughts, but I like raid chat because its more dynamic)

The point is not to forget the discussion, and to keep it open, and even more importantly not condescend to those who might want to speak up.

Ok, Bloodfeaster I'm sorry but if this continues I'll be locking this thread. That statement is so incredibly insulting to the every person who was there that night that I have to question if you're remembering some other night. We did not "scrape by" on that last attempt. In fact it went nearly perfectly. Killing Ragnaros in 4 attempts with a group of people who had never done the encounter before is easily in the 99th percentile of raiding. That is not "overselling" anything, and if you think what we did is perfectly normal, I suggest you do more research.

This thread has taken a very negative tone when it was clearly meant to encourage something positive. There is a great deal of misunderstanding and miscommunication... hell, I may have just misread what Elyana meant. But it's getting out of hand.

You want more strategy discussion, and we're doing it. We always intended to do it with Blackwing Lair. Honestly, do you think I could even tell what was happening in half of that room last night? Discussion is required. But criticizing a clearly successful past is uncalled for.

I suggest further posts be about interest in such a channel, or other ideas on how best to facilitate real-time discussion.

I apologize if my tone was insulting. That was far from my intention. I did not mean to trivialize our success by calling it scraping by, but to draw a comparison between our first attempt and our current attempts. I don't consider winning by "scraping by" to be a bad thing, on our first attempt.

I don't think what we did was normal, by any standards. I think there are a lot of very skilled people that allowed us to pull off what we did, but again, my goal was to illustrate the difference between then and now. If we just "scraped by" Razorgore, it would still have been an amazing success, wouldn't it? I hope that goes some way to clear up what I was trying to say.

I think the current discussion on our strategy is great, and I'm enjoying it. In fact, I think it is going a long way to satisfy the 'issue' I had originally brought up.

As far as this thread taking a negative tone is concerned, I agree with you. However, I think that perhaps discussion of why it has taken such a turn is best taken to private messages, since I'd rather not start a blame-fest on the forums.
