I thought I would also take a moment to offer up some advice about using addons. They can be a bit buggy, but that doesn't mean they are broken. Many errors (roughly 95% in my experience) that addon users see are extremely minor errors that don't actually effect an addon's functionality. Those with programming experience might recognize errors from not declaring variables apropriately and getting NIL errors and such, well these errors don't always prevent whatever function the addon was performing from working. A prime example of this is the waypoint function in Cartographer, it sometimes generates an error when you reach your waypoint where it is trying to clear an internal variable that it was using to track information. Sure, it might be a result of sloppy coding, but you can easily clear the error and set another waypoint and see that all is working fine.

I use an addon Swatter that I actually got from the Auctioneer pack. It does a couple of very useful things when dealing with addon errors. One is that it changes the error window to display more information, see a history of errors, and allow you to copy errors to your clipboard for pasting elsewhere. One other very handy feature is that it suppresses error messages that are only minor inconveniences. I think this may be why I'm still able to use ItemRack, which has many errors in it that get suppressed by Swatter because they are not ones that cause issue with the functions of the addon that I use.

Also, one common problem I see from new addon users is that they assume that an addon having an error is a problem with the addon they are trying to use. This isn't always the case. Some addons just don't play nice with one another, and trying to run them both can cause errors with the other. One such issue I have right now is with WIM and AtlasLootEnhanced. Whenever I try to link an item from AtlasLoot into a WIM window I get disconnected. I can link items from AtlasLoot into a reply line in the default chat box, and I can also link items from the default chatbox into WIM windows without any issue at all. So what does this mean? Well, it means that WIM and AtlasLoot just don't like each other. This issue is only a minor inconvenience for me, so I just deal with it (and sometimes forget and end up getting disconnected ), however when things like this do happen to you it is usually a good idea to visit the respective websites where you got each of the addons in question and post to the authors about it. Heck, you may also find that someone else has posted about the same problem and maybe even has a fix or workaround posted already.

But wait Kolem, how do I know what addons could be conflicting with one another? Well, sometimes you don't, and you have to experiment. If you just installed a new addon and it is giving you an error you just can't get around the first thing you should do is logout, disable all your other addons but that one and then log back in and see if you get the error. If you don't, then you know something isn't compatible somewhere. At that point things get a little more tedious, you have to log in and out several times enabling and disabling addons that could potentially be causing the problems. I generally start with the ones that might have similar functionality. BankStatement and CharacterProfiler both scan your bank when you visit it. If you are getting errors from BankStatement, you might want to try disabling CharacterProfiler to see if it's a problem there. Then, when you know what addons are conflicting you can do a little more research online, posting to the authors sites and such and maybe end up getting a resolution to the problem.

Addons aren't always an easy thing to deal with, but if you have patience and don't mind spending a little time with them they can greatly improve not only your play experience, but those that you group with as well. Just ask any tank if they like seeing their DPSers show up in ThreatMeters

While Kolems not yet back and useing this thread, I thought I'd let folk know about a -VERY- useful Addon called Spam Sentry. Its an anti gold spam blocker that not only blocks spam messages, but makes them easily reportable. One click and you can instantly report a generic message to GM's about spammers and perhaps cut down on the amount of them. Tried it myself, and its worked wonderfully so far. Can even report suspected bots, though not fiddled around with it.
Just a FYI in any case, I'd highly recommend this if your fed up with all the spammers of late.
