We will start raiding Dragon Soul on JANUARY 6, 2012, at 7:30 p.m.

This will be a Dragon Soul 10-man, normal difficulty. We are currently constructing the roster. If you want to commit to the raid, contact Oryx.

To be ready, between now and January 6th gear yourselves up in the new 5-mans until you reach at least ilevel 372. Buy 378 gear with Justice Points, pick up some 5-man 378 drops, and get some of the new 397 Valor Point items. Gem, enchant, and polish everything.

Here's a guide to gearing up in 4.3.

Oryx and I are running in the new 5-mans most evenings starting at about 7:30 server time, along with Anca, Shantow, and Sevdrith. We would be delighted to have other people join us! Just ask!

Once you reach iLevel 372 I encourage you to jump into LFR Dragon Soul to get a feel for the Dragon Soul fights and gear up further.

Deathwing, your days are numbered. Ironsong is coming for you!

Nov. 4 recap, planning for Arthas-H

Hi everybody. Last night, we decided to work on something new - so we extended the timer and headed straight for Rhyolith.

Considering that many of our people were completely new to the fight, we made good progress! We got the hang of steering him and managing the adds, and pushed him into phase 2 (25%!). Now it's just a matter of increasing our efficiency so we go into phase 2 with everybody healthy. We'll try him again next week!

I'd like to find a night to go back and finish off Arthas-10-H for the people that want the achievement. How does Monday at 8:00 look?

Raid leadership change

Dear Tribe,

After a long and successful tenure as Ironsong's raid leader, Jabadue has stepped down as raid leader this week due to upcoming travel plans and real life commitments. I want to thank Jabadue for his many years of service to Ironsong. From TBC through Wrath and Cataclysm, Jabadue has led Ironsong to many, many triumphs and helped to provide countless hours of enjoyment to our members.

The guild thanks you for your dedication, Jabadue.

Oryx and I are stepping in to lead the raid. Invites for this Friday's raid have gone out. We plan to attack the Firelands and/or heroic Icecrown for the Arthas achievement so we can acquire our skeletal drakes. If we do not have a full raid, we will do some Cataclysm dungeon heroics to work on getting our Volcanic Drakes!

Thoughts on improving your raid stats

So I thought I would take a little time out of my evening to make a few comments on ways that people who are joining our raid can look to excel at their role. With our raid moving into the firelands, we are finding quite a jump in the level of co-ordination taken to conquer bosses and make progress. Here are some thoughts to help out.

1) Watch the videos. I can't stress enough how useful it is to know what your getting into before you do it. Every time Jaba has to explain a raid scenario we lose a good deal of time. Know your fights, especially for fights we have already conquered its best to know your role and fit in as smoothly as possible. Looking at fights we havn't done yet lets you be a contributor instead of a liability when it comes to conquering them. Do it, its in your best interest.

2) Molten front Blacksmithing. People, we have equipment out there now that is an improvement over our current weapons by leaps and bounds. But how many of us have taken advantage of this? We need blacksmiths to start hoarding orbs and gaining molten faction. These are upgrades for the entire raid but they take a lot of work and dedication to earn. I have orbs for Guns, I can make the new scopes for people with a few key materials. Great for one or two people, but blacksmiths are invaluable right now to increasing raid dps. Help them get orbs, help them run dailys for faction. I myself am sitting on the materials to make a new spell blade, I just need the smith with the orbs and recipe to do it.

3) Askmrrobot.com. Check it out, optimize your gear with its suggestions. I implore you to look and see if it makes a difference. I know it has for me, I know it has for a few others who are getting more out of their gear than they ever did mixing and matching on their own. We have several good and generous gem crafters in the guild who can help you fill in those slots and our enchants are stockpiling mats just so we can keep on top of that demand as well.

4) Elitistjerks.com. Don't let the name fool you, this is a very well thought out class by class forum regarding how best to rotate your abilities, glyph yourself and hints and tricks for better use of abilities in several boss fights. I know I profited when I started using the destruction spell rotation from the guide I found there. I also picked up a mod that helps show me what I optimally can cast next...it does WONDERS for my dps in raids and keeps me fairly near the top all the time.

5) Deadlyboss mods. Or its equivalent. This is simply a must have. It helps you know what to do in fights and when to expect bad things to happen. Have it, no excuses, this at least is a requirement for anyone who really wants to raid.

Try something new with some League of Legends

So, as some of you may have noticed (or perhaps not) I was awol for about a month for reasons that we will list as "insufficient gold farming." During this time away I was searching high and low for different things to amuse me. I inevitable turned to the now growing market for free to play games. I found a few that were interesting, many that were just downright awful, but I found two that I enjoyed immensely. I want to talk to you today about one of those game.

League of Legends.

If you don't know what LoL is, it is a free to play game (there are many arguments whether or not it is actually an MMO so we'll just call it a game) based off of the DotA mechanic. Now if you don't know what DotA is, it's a mod from Warcraft 3 call Defense of the Ancients where instead of controlling a bunch of units and attack an enemy base you control one hero and work with other players to destroy the enemy base. I know that is a very basic way of looking at it but truth be told I've never played it (mostly because I've never played Warcraft 3, please don't stone me).

In LoL you are a summoner. At the beginning of a match you choose a legend that you will summon into the game. At the start of the match your legend is a level 1 character that you will level up to a cap of 18 as you progress through the match. There are three lanes on a basic map and the idea is to progress up one or more of the lanes to your opposing teams Nexus and destroy it before the opposing team destroys yours. Each lane has defense towers you will have to destroy along the way and a suppressor at the end you have to destroy to allow for super minions. Oh, did I mention that your base and the opposing teams base will summon npc minions as well to fight along side you? Well they do. Killing minions is where you get the majority of your xp for leveling and gold for buying items that strengthen your legend.

Now before I go crazy in explaining the game (like I haven't already) it may just be easier to link some videos below. Basically what I'm doing here is looking for some people to play with. Basic games are 5v5 so I'm looking for at least four other people that might wanna play. Some of you might already play. If so then rock on and lets get some LoL on. I would like to have it where we may be able to get together maybe once or twice a week for an hour or two to play through a few matches. Probably against bots to start because I for one am new to the game and don't wanna get stomped by a team of level 30 summoners (oh yeah, the persistent level gain in the game is for you the summoner, leveling up allows for talent trees and runes and... well just watch the vids). I've had a lot of fun so far playing and I think it could be fun for some of us to get together and try something other than wow. Many have been getting a little tired of it. Some have even taken "vacations" from wow. I don't see a reason why our wow friends have to be only that and playing other things together is a great way to strengthen some of the bonds we've made with each other. Some of you may say "Well, we'll all see each other in ToR when that comes out and have a grand old time together." To that I say "POPPYCOCK!" You all wanna play stormtroopers and jedis and I just can't stomach that republic nonsense. Once you've learned to embrace the power of the Dark Side you understand what true power really is.

Once I get and idea of who is interested in playing and what peoples schedules are like I'll try to put together a night and time we can play.

I'm a big fan of wowcrendor and encourage you to also take some time to watch some of his machinima. They are great. Especially the go guy video. Raid Schedules

As Donalzon put forth last night, it's about time to discuss how we raid as far as the bosses we choose to tackle on a given night.

Currently, we do all the bosses we know we can down ASAP, leaving progression fights for the rest of the week. This has a couple advantages:
- Starting off with as much morale as possible
- Getting possible upgrades for use on more difficult content

However, I see it also as a drawback in the sense it leaves the rest of the week for difficult, discouraging content. And while I don't see this as such (yet?), in past guilds this has also lead to people only showing up for cleared content and then bailing on progression so they can be carried like wimpy little gnomes (not to be confused with strong, heroic gnomes).

I would be much more in favor of going to one dungeon and staying there.
- This gives more time in a dungeon, less time jumping around from area to area.
- It means starting off with a boost in morale that will hopefully carry through for the rest of the night.
- It means less "gaming" of the raid schedule in future.

Baradin Hold is a special case as there's no guarantee it will be available on a given raid night, so that should be thrown in whenever it's available.

So these are my initial thoughts. More input, please.
