Ok...this can be a touchy subject so I will preface it by saying lets not go too serious on things. I am trying to understand Azeroth Lore in relation to priests and who or what is actually worshipped or served by them. My guess is that Blizzard purposely leaves this area unaddressed to keep religeous differences/beliefs from being offensive...which I heartily agree with.

So in a loose thread and "in a nutshell" type of way...who do priests/shaman actually serve in the Horde?

Orcs -

Trolls - (The Loas?)

Forsaken - The Dark Lady

Blood Elves -

Tauren - The Earth Mother

Do blood elves worship the sun or the sunwell or what is the source of priestly magic?
The Blood Knights steal light...do priests do that also?

I would love some clarification on this...my research comes up very scarce on this topic.

thanks all

Ironsong tribe, one topic, two sub topics.

1.) I know not if there was another posting about this issue, however I feel it beneficial if we all have an understanding of how time flows in Azeroth/Outland. Is an second equivalent to an second in our time? A minute? An hour? A day? A Month? A Year? Do they share the same names/terms?

From my own personal opinion I am happy to see that the term "season" is almost rare to see in RP text given that the time it takes to level a character isnt realisticly a "season".

When a character wishes to arrange something via guild chat how do they represent the time they wish to meet in relation to how time passes in WoW.

I have looked all over the internet and have found nothing...are there any resources? Or is there a standard that We as in Ironsong can set in place?

2.) Would it be wise to dictate the actual timeline of events in Warcraft? Ultimately this will aid many tribesmates/potential peons in developing characters/character history. I myself have looked and found many conflicting sources however since I am definately not a "Lore fiend", I dont want to risk dictating information that will undoubtly be argued against, perhaps someone with more knowledge of the history could aid in this endeavour?

Just some thoughts.

(Orc information from the general WoW RPG book!)

Description: To their enemies, they are brutal and fearsome opponents, without parallel in their ferocity and cunning. To their allies, they are noble and honorable, following the traditions of a rediscovered past. The orcs of Lordaeron are part of a race that has once again found its true spirit, shunning the cruel practices of arcane and demonic magic for the paths of wisdom and power. Some orcs still hang on to the arcane practices of the past, but their time is fading.

Though brutal in combat, orcs fight with a feral grace and a brutal passion that equals the finest fencing of an elven noble. For an orc, skill in battle brings great honor. It is the concept of personal honor that pervades orcish society, a concept that has made the race more cohesive and more of a threat to their adversaries in the Alliance.

The concept of honor pervades all echelons of orcish society. Even the naming of an orc is temporary until he has performed a rite of passage. Once an orc has brought honor to his name and the name of his clan, the elders give him a second name based upon his deed. For an orc, honor is as important as his clan, and most will die defending either clan or personal reputation. This is a new development for the orcs; before, when led by the forces tainted by the Burning Legion, the orcs were a bestial force barely controlled by demonic magic.

While the orcs might seem quick to anger, they are tempered by the wisdom of their leaders and their shamans. There are few of the demon-worshipping clans now, for the Alliance or the Horde itself has hunted down most of the remnants of such clans. Now, most of the orcs have embraced a life led by wisdom, honor and the values embodied in the leadership of Thrall as taught by his mentor, Orgrim Doomhammer.

The orcs are one of the most populous races on the world of Azeroth. While many of the Alliance races perceive them to be brutish and savage, the orcs have undeniably spawned a complex society that embraces many occupations and many different races. No doubt the leadership of Thrall and the support of the tauren and jungle troll elders has aided in this solidarity, but it is quite apparent that humanity has underestimated the ability of the orcs to unify and create their own distinct and powerful culture. Perhaps in time, the two factions might come to an understand, but with the current division of Alliance and Horde, no one can say how that peace might come about or when

Appearance: Orc males are massive and brutish looking creatures. Weighing in at 250 to 300 pounds and standing from 6 to 7 feet in height, they are not a small race. Even orc women tend to be only a half-foot or so shorter than most males (and some of them are equal in stature to their male counterparts), having broad shoulders and muscular, powerful bodies.

Orcs tend to have bristly hair and beards, often black or brown in color. Their skin ranges from a light green to a dark drab olive. Eyes range in color from a fierce red to a pale blue. Orcs have broad, flat noses, tusk-like teeth jutting from their lower and sometimes upper jaws, and large, pointed ears. They favor clothes of hide, and armor and arm themselves with a variety of gear.

Region: Durotar, in Kalimdor, is the seat of the orc nation. Named by Thrall in honor of his father, Durotan, the land of Durotar occupies the east coast of Kalimdor. Here, young orcs find many places to prove their honor by fighting the remnants of the quilboar tribes and meeting various threats to the orcs that rise from the Barrens. The more civilized jungle troll tribes co-exist with the orcs in Durotar, facing a minimum of inter-clan rivalry.

The city of Orgrimmar serves as the center of civilation in this arid and hostile land. Orgrimmar stands as one of the mightiest warrior cities in the world. Shamans council the young and train the spiritual leaders of the future while warriors hone themselves in gladiator pits and fierce contents of skill and battle.

Affiliation: Horde. Thrall formed the Horde with determination and sheer will, and created an alliance of races that has shaken the foundations of the world to its core. Having destroyed the legacy of Grom Hellscream by bringing the orcs out of the depths of demon worship and servitude to unseen powers, Thrall rules the Horde in Kalimdor with wisdom and temperance. The orcs are as much a part of the Horde as the Horde is part of what the orcs have become.

Faith: Orcish religion takes the form of an animistic faith that draws strange parallels with the practices of the Kaldorei. The shamans of the orcs find their power in the spirits of nature, forming an intimate connection with the very world that surrounds them. This awareness has led to even more revelations of their race's true nature, as the orcs realize that they live more in harmony with the world itself many of the races of the Alliance who would claim otherwise.

Names: Most orcish names derive from words in their language that have some complex meaning or hidden significane to their families. Typically, this is the name of a favorite thing or relative. Family names don't exist; most orcs have last names related to some great deed of heroism or honor. However, in the case of truly incredible deeds, an orc might take on the last name of his father to ensure that the chronicle of that terrific deed lives on.

Male Names: Grom, Thrum, Drog, Gorrum, Harg, Thurg, Karg.

Female Names: Groma, Hargu, Igrim, Agra, Dragga, Grima.

Family Names: Doomhammer, Deadeye, Foebinder, Elfkiller, Skullsplitter, Axeripper, Tearshorn, Fistcrusher.[/list:u]

Howdy folks.

Today, I decided that I'd post this, because I reference Pandaren in my backstory, and I figured there might be a few of you unsure as to what they really were.

The Pandaren are single-handedly the most elusive Azerothian race. They are Imperialistic, though they are still Tribal, and many folks liken them to Asian Tauren. The Pandaren, though heavily Chinese, seem to be Blizzard's catch-all for Asian culture. You'll find shamanistic as well as samurai/feudal sections of them as often as others.

They, like the Tauren, do not use arcane magic. Were they to ever become a playable race, the lore community surmises that their classes would be near identical to the Tauren, if not harbingers of new classes such as the rumored Monk.

Note that there are very few Pandaren who leave their villages to come to the outside world, and it is on these Pandaren that many of us roleplayers base our histories. No one, as of yet, can enter Pandaria itself. Were you to stumble upon it, you would be slain on sight.

I do recommend http://www.wowwiki.com/Pandaren as a great source of Pandaren information. Keep in mind that we really have no idea as to specifics just yet. These things may or may not be flushed out in future expansions.

Humans: Like us, no biggie. I would expect orcs, trolls, tauren, gnomes, and dwarves to follow the same rules when it comes to age. What about the Undead, Blood Elves, Night Elves, and Dranei? I have no clue how long they're supposed to "be around."

(( With the coming advent of our blood elf overlords I figured I would help to educate those who do not know every teeny aspect of their society and history. The bulk of this information can be found at WoWWiki ))

The blood elves, or sin'dorei ("Children of the Blood" in Thalassian), are a race comprised of former high elves who renamed themselves in honor of their people that were killed during the siege of Quel'Thalas by the Scourge during the Third War. The blood elves of Azeroth will join the Horde in the Burning Crusade expansion, seeking to reunite with Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider in Outland. Their capital will be Silvermoon in the Eversong Woods, the heart of their reclaimed and restored homeland.

Introduction and History

Ten thousand years ago, during the reign of the night elf Queen Azshara, there was an elite magic-using sect known as the Highborne, who dabbled in magics that many other elves considered heretical by drawing upon the power of the Well of Eternity. Several centuries after the Sundering, which destroyed the Well of Eternity, the Highborne left Kalimdor and settled on the Eastern Continent, founding the kingdom of Quel'Thalas. They became known as the high elves. During this time, they created the Sunwell, and switched to a diurnal waking cycle, instead of the nocturnal cycle they had kept when they were night elves. Their purple skin eventually faded to a pale peach color, like that of the humans and dwarves.

The high elves assisted the Alliance of Lordaeron in the Second War against the Horde and in the war against the Burning Legion. During the Third War, however, Prince Arthas led his army of the undead against them, ravaging Quel'Thalas and corrupting the Sunwell. Most of what was left of Quel'thalas was burned down by the high elves, in an effort to give the scourge a psychological victory and leaving the few high elves left who were making their last stand on Sunstrider Isle. Despite their efforts, almost 90% of the high elven population were eradicated during this conflict. In remembrance of their fallen brethren, most of them renamed themselves the blood elves, or Sin'Dorei, and swore to avenge their fallen race.

Cut off from their source of power once again, the elves went into magic withdrawal. Desperate for aid following the Third War, the blood elves accepted help from the naga. This was seen as treachery by the Alliance and they were sentenced to death. Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider led his followers to freedom, to the extra dimensional wastes of Outland, the remnants of Draenor, to pledge allegiance to Illidan who promised to grant them a new source of magic by siphoning the chaotic energies of demons. Together with their allies the naga, Illidan led the blood elves to conquer Outland, gaining in the process the friendship of the nearly extinct draenei. The blood elves then followed Illidan to the Icecrown Glacier in an attempt to destroy the Lich King, however, their plans were foiled by Arthas who wounded Illidan forcing the allied blood elves and naga to retreat, allowing Arthas to ascend the glacier and merge with the Lich King.

But not all blood elves currently reside in Outland with Illidan, some have remained in Azeroth. Flushed with their new found power born from their ability to siphon mana from creatures born of the Twisting Nether, the blood elves have managed to retake their beloved land of Quel'Thalas. Silvermoon has been rebuilt and the resident blood elves there plot to return to Outland, where they can reunite with Kael'thas and achieve the golden destiny he promised them.

Unfortunately, the Kael'Thas' decisions to continually accept the aid of the Naga and willingness to use fel magic has caused blood elves in general to be shunned by the Alliance. Thus, the remaining blood elves on Azeroth look to the Horde to help them reach Outland. While their relations with the rest of the Horde are shaky at best, the tauren and especially the orcs feel at least a little sympathy for them. Addiction to fel magics and a desperate search for a cure is something the orcs are very familiar with, and many older orcs who've experienced similar addictions feel great kinship with the blood elves. The trolls who have been the ancient enemy of all quel'dorei since antiquity accept them warily. The Forsaken have been working closely with the blood elves to purge the greater Plaguelands of Scourge presence since their induction, but the blood elves still regard them with distrust. Lor'themar Theron was Sylvanas Windrunner's second in command during the Second Battle of Quel'Thalas, and many Forsaken were high elves culled from the same battle. By propagating this information and the Earthen Ring's view of the Forsaken's affliction, they have gained enough sympathy from the blood elves to gain entry into greater Quel'thalas and set up outposts. However, most see these obsequious proposals as smoke and mirrors hiding a fiendish plan. Aid from the Forsaken has included offers of reinforcements in and around the reclaimed blood elf territories, and the opening a huge two-way portal outside both the Undercity and Silvermoon so that travel between the two cities is quick, safe and easy. Other than construction of the portal, Theron has viewed most of the offers shrewdly, and has declined on most.

To begin the education of our more barbaric ... brethern of the Horde, we must introduce them to the basics of Thalassian.

Our ancestors, the quel'dorei, made their exodus from Kalimdor to set up the Eastern Kingdoms. There they lived for millenia and their language, which we call Thalassian, still retains parts of their old tongue, Darnassian.

So far, linguistic scholars have opted to err on the side of caution in documenting Darnassian terms and phrases that are also considered part of the Thalassian language. Certainly this issue, however delicate, merits further research. Nevertheless, addressing a quel'dorei or sin'dorei with a Darnassian-specific word or phrase can be considered offensive or at the very least rather foolish, and so the speaker must handle the situation with care.

Here are a few basic phrases that you loveable simpletons can wrap your brains about.

Al diel shala - "Safe travels." - A farewell.
Anar'alah belore. - "By the light of the sun." - Used as either a battle cry or a vow.
Anaria shola. - "Speak your business." - A greeting often used in a businesslike context.
Anu belore dela'na. - "The sun guides us." - A greeting exchanged only with blood elves or high elves. Note that greeting a night elf with this phrase would not be particularly wise.
Bal'a dash, malanore. - "Greetings, traveler." - A greeting.
Bash'a no falor talah! - "Taste the chill of true death!" Not a widespread expression or battle cry. It seems reasonably clear, however, that the speaker is directing this threat against a group of undead.
Doral ana'diel? - "How fare you?" - A greeting.
Medivh - "Keeper of Secrets" - When used as a proper noun, Medivh refers to the last Guardian of Tirisfal.
Selama ashal'anore. - "Justice for our people." - Used as either a vow or a farewell.
Shindu fallah na! - "They're breaking through!" - No meaning beyond the obvious: a warning that the enemy has breached the defenses.
Shorel'aran. - "Farewell." - A farewell.
Sin'dorei - "Children of the Blood" - Can also be interpreted as "people of the bloodline". Typically used to refer to blood elves.
Sinu a'manore. - "Well met." A greeting.
Sunstrider - "He who walks the day." - When used as a proper noun, Sunstrider is the family name of the high elves' royal bloodline, the last scion of which is Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider.
