I am not so proud to say getting [wang] to be purple in code took me about 10 minutes. Apparently Colour has to be spelled color.... ?

Colour is the english spelling, color is the american spelling.
easy way to remember it, americans are notoriously lazy. so if there is ever 2 words and one is shorter and easier to spell, its american.
