Ragnaros's Preparation for Healers (Priests, Druids & Shaman)

The Ragnaros fight combines elements of all the previous nine bosses in the Molten Core. It will test our ability to retain the lessons learned from those fights, and our raid coordination, movements, main tanking, off tanking, healing, banishing, dps, aggro control, crowd control, pulling, assisting, positioning, listening to raid leader commands, voting Akora for MA and knowing where to be and what to be doing. Every participant will have multiple positions and duties, and they must stay alive to execute these duties.

Ragnaros (Rags) is a fight with three distinct stages.
Stage 1: Ragnaros Wars
Stage 2: Sons of Flame Strike Back
Stage 3: Ragnaros Returns
If we do things right we won’t have Stages 4 & 5
Stage 4: Return of the Sons
Stage 5: Revenge of Ragnaros

Fire Resist

Equipment-wise, Fire Resist (FR) is moderately important. We should be aiming for 100+ unbuffed, but don't gimp your mana pool too much. I’d like for the main tanks healers to have around 200 FR.

Potions & Stuff
Get this stuff: Greater Fire Protection Potion, Greater Arcane Elixir, Potions can really help in our initial attempts. Fire Resist potions are just as good or better than healing potions. I recommend that everyone use a Greater Fire Resist potion 2 min before the pull.

Everyone should be responsible for his/her own potions or make arrangements with guild mates to provide form them.

Positioning
This fight is all about positioning, know your spots.
http://pacifistguild.org/ragnaros/

Like the MajorDomo fight, we can position ourselves and ‘practice’ positioning with out pulling aggro from Ragnaros if we are ‘smart’ about it (the fight starts when we talk to MajorDomo). The leadership will call out the various battle ‘stages’ and we will practice moving to and from the various positions. Every participant must know where to be for each stage of the fight. Improper positioning will lead to deaths or ineffectiveness.

Group Setup
Melee groups and ranged groups is the general idea.
• MTs, MT healers, and melee groups should get priority on Shamans because they will need FR totems more than ranged. Always use FR totems.
• Groups 1 and 2 are MT groups and should consist of: MT1/MT2/Shaman/Druid/Warlock and Shaman/Priest x2/Ranged x2. Healing on MT should be 2 Priests, 2 Shamans, and 1 Druid. These two ranged members in Group #2 need special attention from the designated ranged healers since their in group healers will be entirely focused on the MTs, or they need to be healing self sufficient.
• If you are a healer in the MT groups, just heal yourselves and your MTs, no one else. This is probably the most important job in the entire fight.

Note Group #1 will have two Main Tanks. Depending on the situation, the Main Tank heal team will need to be healing either MT1 or MT2 If we lose a MT or a MT Heal member we need to battle resurrect these folks ASAP (Druids save your rezzes for these folks). If you are a group #1 or #2 Shaman and you die, Self Rez immediately on any serious attempts. We put both Main Tanks in one group for the Totems & Warlock Buff.

• Then around 3 groups of melee setup like so: Melee x3/Healer x2 for totems. Tthey will take AE damage from Lava Splashes and Prayer of Healing comes in very handy as well as Chain Heal. If you are a melee group healer focus on your group.

• And the last 3 groups or so are ranged attackers, likely with little healing support. They definitely take damage from random explosions that needs to be healed, but they shouldn't be close enough to the lava to take Lava Splash damage. These ranged attackers should be lowest on our healing triage list. If you are a ranged group healer focus on your groups, but keep an eye out for cross-raid healing opportunities. They ranged folks shouldn’t be taking too much damage.

• We will set up warrior MA for the Sons of Flame. This MA must live through the Sons.

Ragnaros’s Abilities
Ragnaros has several abilities that he uses in the fight, sometimes accompanied by yelling. They are as follows:

Wrath of Ragnaros – “Taste the Flames of Sulfuronâ€
That's..a lot of stuff (reads) We can do it though (scribbles some notes) Cake! ...or at least pie. Maybe even pie AND chips!
It's a lot to remember, but don't worry, we'll toss out a few reminders before and during the fight *grins*.
Wow, we can do this!
Read and Understood

I do have one question. You say to keep fire resist totem down at all times. Could we intersperse some mana totems to keep MT healing groups if mana gets low, which I think it likely will.

-Jaba
This will take some really good coordination on our part to make it happen. But I've seen what this Tribe can do, and have NO doubts that we will be successful. Big Grin

Jabadue,

Yes, while Fire Resist is important, if you are a mana tided spec shaman you can lay a mana tide totem down.

I would say in phase #1 & #3 keep the FR totems down, in Phase #2 (the Sons) throw down your mana regen totems, if you are 1. Not in the MA's group #2 and if you are in a mana heavy group.
