Hi all,

What are your favorite movies? What did you like about them? What made them important to you?

Do share!

-Zlinka
It may be overrated, but I loved the entire Lord of the Rings series. The characters had so much heart and believability, and there was one everyone could relate to in some way.

Also, the soundtracks were amazing. "Into the West" remains one of my favorite songs ever composed.

I also like the movie "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist". It's a stupid comedy, but I always enjoy a good laugh.

In no particular order, aside from the order they come to mind:

The 13th Warrior

The Last of the Mohicans

We Were Soldiers

Heartbreak Ridge

Rock n' Rule

Heavy Metal

The Matrix trilogy

Star Trek II, IV, VI and XI (whichever J.J. Abrams' effort was)

The Dark Crystal

The Usual Suspects

I'll second the LotR trilogy; Peter Jackson definitely did a masterful job translating the novels to the screen.

I could go on for a while; all of these movies had something compelling about them. The story, the characters, the "Holy [BLEEP]" moment(s).

jabadue Wrote:Westerns (I guess nobody watches them anymore)
My dad's always been a huge John Wayne fan, and of westerns in general. So I think I have probably seen most of them. I just don't remember which one is which.

Other favorites:
Treasure Island (the old black and white one. I *love* that book.)
The Count of Monte Cristo (the semi-recent one)
Speed Racer (I can't help loving this movie. The characters are so spot on.)

Drama:

The Usual Suspects
The Last Samurai
Last of the Mohicans

I am insulted that you would classify this movie under "Drama". Just because Tom Cruise is in it, doesn't automatically make it a Drama. He is a good actor..................................................in this movie and a couple others I probably have not seen. Now...

Favorite movies, unclassified and unrated:

Gladiator - Great acting and a great story, sad ending that can almost make me cry, haha.
The Last Samurai - Always liked Japanese culture and this was a good story about strangers from two worlds becoming friends
Kingdom of Heaven - Just the story and the acting was amazing...and the message it conveyed meant something.
The Fifth Element - Mmmmmmmm Milla Jovovich...
Hackers - Just awsome, maybe because I got to see Angelina Jolies nipple...maybe not.
Akira (Spoken Japanese only) - Again, I like Japanese Culture, and the language
Mononoke Hime (aka Princess Mononoke) (Spoken Japanese only) - Awesome story with an environmental message.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Spoken Mandarin only) - First Mandarin language movie I ever watched. Also really enjoy the Kung fu action.
Hero (Spoken Madarin only) - Same as above, this was my second Mandarin language movie ever
Blood Diamond (Leo has been a much better actor AFTER he got fatter) - First "real life" movie I ever watched, and WOW, this was an amazing movie with great acting on all counts and a very strong message of reality. P.S. Jennifer Conelly is attractive.
Harry Potter 1-6 - I really enjoyed the books, the movies are very enjoyable as well
Hulk (With Eric Bana) - Ang lee did a GOOD JOB with this movie, despite what anyone else things...P.S. Jennifer Conelly is attractive.
Iron Man - Favorite Marvel Character
The Never Ending Story (the First) - I enjoyed the story because it never ends!
The Last Unicorn (Dont laugh, it was good!) - I think its the song "The Last Unicorn - Kenny Loggins" that I enjoyed, but also liked the story.
Legend - I believe this was my very first "true" fantasy movie ever and I really liked it growing up.

There are more but I cant visualize my movie collection at the moment.

How did I miss this one?

This wouldn't make my list, but I think it was grossly under-appreciated. It was punished for not having enough action.

ugh that movie irritates the living crap out of me, even with the nipple.
