As someone who has been on the reieving end of rear-endings, been run off the road (twice!), been flipped the bird for no apparent reason more times than I can count, dealt with several intoxicated (by alcohol or otherwise) drivers, and observed many, many, many accidents, including what may be California's Stupidest Auto Collision (which occured at about three miles an hour with plenty of space for the crash-er to stop or the crash-ee to get out of the way), I will say that there are certainly more pleasant places to drive.
I've heard about the "Tent City", and was quite pleased/amused.
