NEW YORK, October 2, 2006 -- There's trouble in the online gaming world when the actions of a renegade player threaten to destroy Blizzard Entertainment®'s award-winning game World of Warcraft®. The future of the game lies in the hands of Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny when all new episodes in the tenth season of the widely-acclaimed series, "South Park," premiere Wednesday, October 4 at 10:00 p.m. on COMEDY CENTRAL.

In this episode, the boys come into contact with a gamer who doesn't play by the rules. Even the creative people behind World of Warcraft don't know how to stop the renegade. They are forced to put all of their hope into the hands of the kids of South Park. The boys dedicate their lives to defeating the mad gamer and saving the game for all.

"We were excited to hear that the creators of 'South Park' were interested in featuring World of Warcraft in the opening of their new season, and we really enjoyed collaborating with them to make this happen," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We're looking forward to sharing the experience with our employees and our players as well when the season debuts this week."

This I gotta see. WIth South Park lambasting everyone in sight for the past several years, I find it hard to believe they'll have something good to say about World of Warcraft. I hope Blizzard knows what they're getting themselves into.

"I learned something today: playing games is all good and nice, but when they are the only thing you do you lose focus on the things in life that really matter..." or some such predictable tripe.

I love South Park but after season 7 I stopped loving them... It was all preachy rubbish with a little farty humor thrown in to make you think it was funny. Some of the new episodes are still kinda funny, but I've stopped watching them religiously. I might sacrifice to watch this one... Maybe.

You remind me of one quote from the most recent season Efluvia.

"I like Family Guy. Sure it's just idiotic jokes with no real story, but I think that's funny. At least it hasn't gotten all up it's own ass with messages like some shows."

Man. I've been reading some of the comments about WoW on the South Park forum. There are a lot more people than I expected that have not even heard of the game. Then there are the people who absolutely hate the game and think it's the bane of modern society. I wasn't even aware of this kind of hostility towards the game.

HA! WoW has the least grind of any MMO I have ever played. Compared to EQ or DAoC there is no grind whatsoever. No downtime, little to no penalty for death, and negligible travel time. The quest system even makes what little grinding that is present seem nonexistant. This is the most user-friendly MMO to date. One of the reasons that it is so popular.

I just recently migrated from EQ to WoW and I have to agree, compared to EQ, WoW is the most user friendly MMO ever.

I can understand now why people call WoW a cookie cuttter game but I find myself enjoying a MMO again after long years of EQ feeling like I was spending countless hours with nothing to show for it.

I don't know what the people who call this game a grind game are smoking but I want some I think lol

Then again, maybe I don't. I want to continue enjoying WoW

Okay, that was funny.

It was a very well done episode and it's quite clear that Blizzard have a great respect for themselves and their fanbase to assume that they'd not feel alienated by the lampooning. Also, the in-game segments were brilliant. Though I couldn't help but notice many, many discrepancies which I was hoping wouldn't be present due to Blizzard actually helping to make the episode.

It's from Kel'thuzad.

Moorenn is right, Blizzard was brilliant to support South Park lampooning their product. This could easily have been bad PR for them, not only in how WoW players are portrayed in the episode, but if Blizzard had reacted badly to being mocked. By showing they have a sense of humor about themselves, and trusting that the player base has an equally good sense of humor, Blizzard was able to come out of this looking "cool" in the eyes of their market.

Someone in Blizzard's PR department deserves a really big cookie!
