Processes running at startup
#1
Oy, you techie lot.

I have a pretty old PC at work that is reeeeally slow to respond and takes around 10 minutes to become functional after being restarted, and it's driving me crazy. There's 50 or so processes (many of them programs I don't actually need, and will often just close once it lets me do anything) running at a given time, and I can only assume that makes things worse. How can I change what processes and programs are automatically run and started when the computer is turned on or restarted?

--start
--run

type in "msconfig" (minus the quotations, dur)

then go to the startup tab and uncheck everything you'd rather the pc not load at startup

Thanks bunches, bar. I knew I'd seen it but I had no idea where to find it.

And holy, holy, holy, that's a lot of crap.

Windows is an aged man with a family history of Alzheimer's.

If you really want to speed the machine up, backup everything important and then wipe the drive.
