- Shoot 'em?

- Politely.

((Only time will tell if this is a good idea or a peculiar idea...but the eventuality of a Firefly MMO is interesting nonetheless! ))

Oh, that would be very interesting. Especially if Joss Wedon is actually involved and able to fully expand the story as he wanted to. I suppose I should read the article and find out!. Hmm...doesnt say anything about having Wedon on board...I hope he is. Might not turn out so good otherwise. Thanks for the info Eveline.

I am just... boggled by this. I am hook, line, and sinker for anything Firefly, but a MMO... I can't wrap my mind around it. As with all of Joss' work, though the world and setting were very interesting and well-crafted, it was the characters that truly made it special. I suppose we'll see!

The MMO is being commissioned by Fox, and Joss has adamantly said he will never works with those guys again. You can safely assume that he won't be. I've seen mutterings that this might be a bad thing if it's successful - if Fox can make money off of Firefly, they'll never let go of the copyright, and we can kiss any more movies or series goodbye.

That being said, depending on how it turns out, I might have to quit WoW the day Firefly MMO comes out.

If Fox is specifically commissioning the game, and it isn't being developed because some developer wanted to do it, then it'll fail. I mean, Star Wars: Galaxies was probably the biggest MMO to ever come out since Everquest (prior to WoW) insofar as the scope and breadth of a fanbase, and yet it's failed miserably. While Firefly seems to have a cult following, I don't see an MMO for it being all that successful.

Not only that, but if Fox really is the one who's doing this, then I have just about zero interest in playing it, since they're doing it just to try to milk the franchise instead of giving people want they really want - a continuation of the series. Though I guess I can blame Sci-Fi for not picking it up either, since they're the ones who seemed to really bring Firefly into the viewer conscious.

I just saw this news myself. I'm trying to be hopeful, but... nn.

I hear that the tabletop RPG is a very nice book, by the by. I'm a fan as well, perhaps unsurprisingly to some. Whedon's current run on X-Men has been holding my attention as well. He clearly comes from the same era of comics fandom as myself, even if I was a latecomer to that era via trades and such. Kitty Pryde forever!

I don't think I'd play that... Mal was such an ingenious character from an acting perspective... Like SWG's 1001 Han Solo wannabee's (hand sowlo, _HAN_SULO,) there would be 1001 Malcolm Reynolds wannabee's out there too... and it would get kinda... annoying... I mean how many people could you see acting like Wash? I think Fox would ruin the whole idea of Firefly.

And in regards to the "What is Firefly?" Question...

GASP!
The Story
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SrcPvFbLhA

The intro
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiKHkrGcZxU

And after it was cancelled...

Serenity

If you haven't seen the show... I'd suggest you pick the entire series of Firefly and the movie Serentiy for about $80 total.

If you prefer to read about it, rather than watching it on YouTube, try the recaps at Television Without Pity - http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/ar ... _1246.html Watching the show afterward, or concurrently, can make a lot more sense that way.

(One unfamiliar with TWoP, especially a huge fan, might have a lot of trouble with the style. I personally love it, but I know that people who disagree with a recapper's, ah, point of view, might be more inclined to throw things at their television)

That said, I... am not the biggest Firefly fan. I watched what I could, and dutifully read the rest and saw Serenity a couple times, but I couldn't get into it the way I felt like I "should," given everyone else's reactions. I probably just know too many browncoats, but it's always made me feel vaguely guilty instead of excited. (Sort of the way Joss's Astonishing X-Men makes me feel, only that makes me roll my eyes more. And I kind of like the storyline, after the eye-rolling)

Wierd. Like cowboys in space!

I've never actually seen firefly or serenity, although I remember seeing commercials for the movie. Maybe I would like it. I saw on Wiki that he got the idea for the show after reading The Killer Angles. That's interesting. I really like that book so who knows. I really liked the new Battlestar Galactica, at least the first few seasons, but this looks completely different. Oh and of course Babylon 5 was good. Never really a big fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer though.
