E3 Images - And the Alliance race is... Draenai
#1
Couple images from E3 circulating the web from "the video." All in all I'm more confused now than I was when I first heard the GameSpy summary.

Eredar or True Draenai?

Here's some links to the images:

well, here comes the ridiculous twist!

draenei are the playable race, but they are descended from eredar. hence the confusion! i'm sorry, i really hate blizzard right now. there's a image of one of there e3 banners that has a "draenei/eredar" in paladin gear which i saw online last night. it just kinda' irks me to see that recalling how war3 they couldn't have the legion playable, because although playing demons would be cool, it would dumb the race down to even things out... and now they have "holy demons."

p.s. i'm totally getting a wii. and spore.

Yup, Draenai. A race so obscenely holy it makes me cringe... The World of Warcraft and the Burning Crusade pages have been updated with write-ups, pics and stuff.

Well.. lets see.. what classes will each race be playable as though? I couldn't find that anywhere, but here are my guesses, according to logic, balancing, and.. yeah.

Draenei:
-Warrior (obviously)
-Paladin (Because there are 3 shaman races, and only 2 paladin races so far)
-Mage
-Priest
-Hunter (IMO: blah if they get this class..)

Blood Elves:
-Warrior (Duh)
-Rogue
-Mage
-Warlock
-Priest

And those are the only ones I can see each race being.. Hunter is really up in the air for both.. I can't see holy demons being warlocks, the image doesn't match.. nor rogues, again, image doesn't match.. And for the elves, hard to imagine them as preists, though could be.. Druids are going to still exclusively be Tauren and Night Elf.. though you never know with Blizzard..

That's my guess for you people that like to plan your alts ahead of time ^^

Karlaki: From the gear pictured in the screenshots, the Priest class will in fact be available to Blood Elves (BE female pictured in full Transcendence). From what I can make out from the shots, it looks like the Draenai will have the Priest, Paladin, Hunter, and Warrior classes, possibly among others.

Reading over the history of the Eredar/Draenei I thought it wasn't a bad story, all except this part: "And more recently, the Blood Elves stole technology from the Draenei and also sabotaged their dimensional ship, which crash landed on Azeroth. "

It sounds very contrived. Okay, they were flying on a dimensional ship and just *happened* to land on the same planet that the orcs came to, and *happened* to land on some uncharted island in the middle of the ocean. Well that's certainly a very hugely unfathomably improbable *cough*contrived*cough* coincidence. They really couldn't have come up with something a little more believable? I suppose there is more to this story, but from the preview it makes their presence on Azeroth sketchy at best.

But they are a cool race, and I don't say that sarcastically. One thing I liked about the whole Warcraft story and setting is the way that they toy with the dichotomy of good vs. evil so much. No race is "good" without reproach, there is always some level of corruption going on on some level of their society (usually with either the Nether or Demons as being the root of it, or at least an enabler); yet even the "evil" races have their individuals that struggle to redeem themselves and their people. This Eredar-Draenei connection definately is in line with this trend, and I must say I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Blood Elves, I believe will be:
-Warrior
-Rogue
-Mage
-Warlock
-Priest

Basically all the caster types, though I don't know how rogue fits in there.

Actually, it's a really cool twist. Sarganeas was looking for a race to lead his demonic armies in his quest to eradicate life from the cosmos. He found the Eredar, but not all joined him. The Draenei finally settled on Dreanor, where the orcs just happened to be living. Now here ist he contrived piece, as Stormcrow said...of all the worlds the Draenei explored while the Burning Legion pursued them, they just happened to pick a world that was already occupied. But then, sometimes you have to sacrifice believability for a good story.

The Dreanei were the reason the Orcs were corrupted. They brought Kil'jaeden and the Burnign Legion to Dreanor. The Burnign Leigon may have overlooked the orcs if not for the Dreanei's arrogance in thinking they could hide. Sometimes a certainy in one's holy mission and some modicum of holy power is a call to pride and arrogance.

I don't see anywhere in the lore Blizzard has published yet to support what I'm about to say, but it seems to make sense. The Dreanei are guilty of bringing the Burning Legion to Azeroth. They are guilty of bringing the Legion's attention on the Orcs, attention that facilitated the Orcs corruption and thus the creation of the Horde. Through that, the Dreanei are party to the guilt for the thousands that have died in the three great wars on Azeroth. If they had never tried to settle on Dreanor, then the wars never would haveh appened.

Yet at the same time, the Dreanei are heroes. Their actions, while causing much pain adn war, also indirectly helped forge the Alliance, the only force in all the lore that has actually repelled the Burning Legion. So ti makes sense that they'd join the Alliance. The Naaru did promise they would forge the Dreanei into a " single unstoppable army of the Light."

And just who are the Naaru anyway?

At any rate, my rant here just goes to show that a creative person can spin anything. Smile

I think the Draenai are out to get us Orc's, personally. <Grins> They just outright hate us.

I am not a big "hater" when it comes to lore issues but I think the one glaring issue is:

"The Eredar, an insidious race of devilish sorcerers, used their warlock magic to invade and enslave a number of worlds. The indigenous races of those worlds were mutated by the Eredar's malevolent powers and turned into demons themselves. Though Sargeras' nearly limitless powers were more than enough to defeat the vile Eredar, he was greatly troubled by the creatures' corruption and all-consuming evil. Incapable of fathoming such depravity, the great Titan began to slip into a brooding depression."

vs.

"Unfortunately the Eredar's accomplishments caught the attention of Sargeras, the Destroyer of Worlds. He had already begun his Burning Crusade to eradicate all life from the cosmos, and he believed that the brilliant eredar would be pivotal in leading the vast demonic army he was gathering. Thus, he contacted the eredar's three most prominent leaders: Kil'jaeden, Archimonde, and Velen. In exchange for the loyalty of the eredar race, Sargeras offered untold power and knowledge. "

Chicken or egg. Did the Eredar's evil lead to Sargeras' depair and corruption, or did his evil lead to their corruption? The lore is not contradictory. ICly this can be okay but OOCly it shouldn't happen really.

'Tae, you and me both.

This new history with of the Draenei destroys the history of Sargeras. Why didn't they take this into account? Why not remedy it... they could do that quite fast.

I really am dissapointed more and more with what WoW has done to the warcraft universe. Let's hope that movie can remedy it.

"History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.".
-Karl Marx

Just chalk it up to the fact that history is typically writen by the victors. In reality, no one can ever really know the actual truth of what happened in the past. Did a man actually run all the way from Marathon to Athen's to inform the city of the Grecian victory over the Persians? Who knows? Did Johnny Appleseed really wander the US planting trees? Maybe, but doubtful. In these two examples, you have variying degrees of historical accuracy.

Perhaps this "new" interpretation is what really happened, despite what the myths and legends said. That is a horribly apologetic and forgiving stance, I know, but in the end the lore is still pretty solid, if you ask me. This new twist is more interesting, actually, as it includes a holy race whoes brethren are now the most powerful of demons.

Yeah, though, continuity doesn't seem to high on Bilzzard's priority list. They're almost as bad as George Lucas or Star Trek: Enterprise.

I'm gonna guess that the Dranei get Hunters and not Mages.

I'm just glad the Draenei aren't those ugly little cretins like in the Swamp of Sorrows. That would have been truly disappointing if they had been... Yay for another relatively pretty race for the Alliance.
