Disconections, the bane of my life.

OOC:

Well, as many of you have found out, lag is bad. And lag, if it gets bad enough, can lead to disconections. This can be due to a multitude of things, and lag makes you do a multitude of things. Take, for instance, my attempt at hugging Lucifron...

Getting to the point, I'd like some assistance, wherever I can get it, whomever can give it, I'm tired of having to drop runs in the middle just because I lag out and pull the whole damn instance. I'm getting rather bitter over this considering I've missed several things I got ready all week to do. AQ20, the Molten Core, and such.

I use a DSL modem connected to a wireless (Linksys) router, the computer is old. I don't remember how old but it may be a RAM issue. Other than that, until I can get this fixed, I'll just drop the whole idea that I'd be attending Ironsong raids, because if this continues, it wont happen.

Like I said in Guild Chat, for those of you there, I am sorry for pulling lucifron. The moment I tried to step forward I was disconected, apparntly leading me to my hug attempt. Which, frankly (as recent account of Zlinka goes) pissed him off.

I hope to get this fixed, and attend future raids. Until then...

:::Edit:::

As of right now, I'm defragmenting my computer. I also failed to mention that during these cases there were thunderstorms in the area. I think that may have something to do with it.

Konfucius - check this page first:

(that page doesn't mention it, but you can check your network adapter type by right-clicking on My Computer in the Start menu, selecting "Properties", then selecting the "Hardware" tab, and clicking "Device Manager")

Other ideas that are on that page include changing the Checksum Offload and Duplex settings of your network card (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01686p3 ), and checking for invasive spyware (which can cause disconnects in some cases, though it seems unlikely it would be instance related).

Thunderstorms could increase the number of errors in your data signal (static in the phone lines) which means that the checksum and duplex settings could be implicated.
